The Calcutta High Court questioned Kolkata Police’s decision to restrict traffic on Red Road and nearby areas ahead of International Yoga Day celebrations. The court was hearing a challenge by All India Lawyers Union against road closures citing security concerns.
The Delhi High Court said that old incidents of violence should not be the only reason to stop religious events like the Hanuman Jayanti procession in Jahangirpuri. The Court told Delhi Police to look into the matter and decide fairly. It also said that proper safety steps can be taken to allow such events peacefully.
