Advocate has moved the High Court challenging the Maharashtra government’s cancellation of the 5% Muslim quota, calling the decision unjustified. The plea alleges state is practicing racial discrimination against the Muslim community, violating fundamental rights guaranteed under Constitution of India.
The Supreme Court expressed strong concern after two Kerala students in Delhi were forced to speak Hindi and mocked for wearing a lungi, reminding that “we are one country.” The court said discrimination based on culture or language is “unacceptable.”
Justice Hrishikesh Roy, born on February 1, 1960, assumed office on September 23, 2019, and will retire on January 31, 2025. He has authored 70 judgments, focusing on diverse legal issues. A reformative judge, he has initiated significant legal programs and films to enhance mediation and support racial discrimination victims.
