The Supreme Court held that motor vehicle tax is compensatory in nature and cannot be charged if a vehicle is not used or kept for use in a public place. Vehicles confined to private premises like RINL’s yard are exempt from such tax.
Today, On 11th April, The Calcutta High Court has dismissed a plea seeking permission to hold a Hanuman Chalisa recital at Kolkata’s Red Road. The court emphasized that the petitioner must first establish a legal right to conduct such events in public spaces. It also stressed the importance of maintaining public order and secular principles.
