Punjab: A court in Punjab’s Ferozepur district has issued arrest warrants against 25 farmers for their alleged role in a security breach during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the state on January 5, 2022.
Today, On 6th December, Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar announced an investigation after currency notes were found on MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi’s seat during a routine check. Singhvi expressed disbelief, citing his brief presence in the House. He called for cooperation in investigating the incident and addressing security concerns.
Tollywood star Allu Arjun filed a petition in the Andhra Pradesh High Court to dismiss a case stemming from a May 2024 election rally supporting former MLA Shilpa Ravichandra. Today(on 8th April), The Delhi High Court reprimanded Advocate Jai Anant Dehadrai for speaking to the media after his defamation case hearing against Mahua Moitra. The court summoned Moitra and emphasized that making allegations without an injunction grants Moitra the right to defend herself. The court adjourned the case until April 25. Dehadrai sought Rs. 2 crore in damages and requested media outlets to remove defamatory content.
Today (5th April): Anil Masih, the former poll officer in the Chandigarh mayoral election, has issued an unconditional apology before the Supreme Court for unlawfully altering the election outcome and making false statements. The Court condemned his conduct and issued a show-cause notice. The matter will be examined further in July, with the Court expressing distress over observed “horse-trading”.
Today(on 28th March),Delhi court extends Arvind Kejriwal’s custody until April 1 amid an investigation into alleged money laundering related to the 2021-22 Delhi Excise Policy. Kejriwal, Delhi’s Chief Minister, was arrested on March 21 and became the first sitting Chief Minister to be arrested while in office. The court granted a four-day extension, while Kejriwal maintains his innocence.
Today(on 23rd March), A Delhi court has extended the Enforcement Directorate’s custody of BRS leader K. Kavitha by three days in connection with the Delhi excise policy case. The court upheld the ED’s request for the custody extension and set March 26 as the new deadline. Kavitha’s legal team has submitted a bail application, but the ED has objected, citing the ongoing investigation. Kavitha denies any wrongdoing and alleges political motives in the case.
Six former MLAs from Himachal Pradesh are considering withdrawing their plea challenging their disqualification by the Supreme Court.
