The Central government has cleared the appointment of five judicial officers as judges of the Allahabad High Court. The move comes as the Court struggles with over 50% judicial vacancies.
NALSA and the SC Mediation Panel will launch a 90-day “Mediation For the Nation” campaign from July 1, 2025, to promote cost-effective dispute resolution across India. This initiative aims to resolve pending cases through mediation, encouraging a faster and more amicable process while alleviating the burden on courts and preserving relationships.
Over 1.20 lakh cases are pending in the Delhi High Court, mainly due to judge shortage worsened by recent transfers and retirements. Justice Kathpalia’s bench called the situation “extremely distressing,” as many appeals remain unheard for years.

Their case, last heard in April 2023, remains unresolved. The Supreme Court has requested a comprehensive report on all pending civil cases for further review.

The court emphasized the need for quick justice for child victims, urging better staffing, training, and timely police action in enforcing these cases.
The Delhi High Court has addressed delays in Juvenile Justice Boards, issuing notices to the Centre and Delhi Government over a PIL that claims these delays infringe children’s rights to a fair trial. The petitioner, iProbono, highlights a “shockingly poor” implementation of legal timelines, urging systemic reforms for timely justice.
The Supreme Court of India expressed concern over nearly 7 lakh pending criminal appeals across high courts, especially noting the severe under-staffing in the Allahabad High Court, which currently operates with only 79 of its sanctioned 160 judges. The court urged the central government to expedite judicial appointments for timely justice delivery.
