A 60-year-old man in Shahjahanpur lost ₹1.04 crore to fraudsters impersonating ED and CBI officials through fake WhatsApp court hearings. Seven young men were arrested for this cyber scam. Police warned the public about rising digital arrest frauds and urged immediate reporting of suspicious activities to authorities.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court recommended restricting individuals to one prepaid SIM card each to combat rising cybercrimes, citing an increase in online fraud cases. The court urged the government to monitor and regulate the distribution of multiple SIM cards and questioned the need for individuals to hold more than one SIM card. This move aims to enhance mobile communication security and reduce fraudulent activities.
The Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission fined Flipkart, OnePlus, and a retailer Rs 30,000 for selling a used phone as new. They were also ordered to refund the complainant and pay additional compensation for unfair trade practices and negligence. The Commission criticized their indifference towards customer grievances and instructed them to cease such practices.
