A Patiala House Court granted interim relief to journalist Swati Chaturvedi by directing OpIndia to remove two allegedly defamatory articles and restraining further defamatory publications during pendency of the defamation suit before District Judge Meenu Kaushik.
Yesterday, On 3rd October, the Delhi High Court issued notices to X (formerly Twitter) and The New Indian for publishing a “contemptuous” legal notice that undermined the court’s dignity. The judge emphasized the necessity for their representatives to attend the next hearing on October 28, as the legal notice contained malicious allegations against the court.
Today(on 24th July),The Supreme Court overturned the Delhi High Court’s decision that had nullified the summons to The Wire in a defamation case brought by a JNU professor. Justices MM Sundresh and Aravind Kumar instructed the Magistrate to re-evaluate the summons after a thorough review of the article in question.
