India’s food regulator has filed three adjudication cases against Nestle India over its infant-nutrition products. The FSSAI flagged promotional claims on NAN Excella Pro Stage 1 (relating to ‘5HMOs’ and ‘Whey Protein’) and Lactogen Pro 1 (describing whey protein as easy to digest), and found a follow-up formula sample non-conforming on biotin content after re-analysis. These are adjudication proceedings; no penalty has been imposed and Nestle is yet to be heard.
Today,18th April, The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India is investigating claims that Nestle added sugar to its infant milk products following a report by Public Eye. Tests revealed significant added sugar in 15 Nestle products, contradicting their packaging claims. Nestle’s stock performance suffered, and the company is committed to reducing added sugars in its products.
Today (12th March): The National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) dismissed the Indian government’s complaint against Nestlé India regarding the safety of Maggi noodles. The complaint, filed in 2015, alleged impermissible lead levels and unfair trade practices. However, the NCDRC cited a report from CFTRI confirming permissible lead levels, leading to the complaint’s dismissal.
