Supreme Court Permits Petitioner to Withdraw 17 PILs After Reprimand for Filing ‘Frivolous and Baseless’ Cases

A lawyer earlier reprimanded for filing “frivolous and baseless” PILs sought to withdraw 17 of 47 petitions, telling the Supreme Court he would approach authorities first. The bench led by CJI Surya Kant allowed advocate Sachin Gupta’s request.

Today, On 11th December, The Supreme Court reprimanded a woman lawyer for a derogatory Facebook post targeting another woman who accused Kerala Congress MLA Rahul Mamkoottathil of rape. The Court said, “Had it been a man who had written all this nonsense, we would have got him arrested here itself.”
