The Delhi High Court questioned the Centre’s move to reclaim land occupied by major sporting institutions, warning against the loss of green spaces in the capital. Expressing concern over worsening environmental conditions, the Court observed that unchecked urbanisation could severely impact public health and quality of life.
Delhi High Court heard the Delhi Gymkhana Club case, with the Centre saying police would not move in on June 5 and eviction will follow due process, while Justice Avneesh Jhingan termed the plea as premature.
Today, On 16th May, Calling it a “glaring issue,” the Supreme Court ordered all states and UTs to transfer notified forest land, still held by revenue departments, back to forest departments within one year to protect forest rights.
