The Bombay High Court said there is “no harm” in allowing Elgar Parishad accused Gautam Navlakha to shift to his Delhi residence till the trial starts, noting he is not a flight risk. The court observed that forcing the 73-year-old to stay in Mumbai despite having a home in Delhi was unjustified.
Activist Ramesh Gaichor, accused in the Elgar Parishad case, was released from Taloja jail after a delay despite HC orders. Jail superintendent apologised unconditionally to the Bombay High Court.
The Supreme Court will hear activist Jyoti Jagtap’s bail plea in the Elgar Parishad-Maoist links case on September 8. The NIA’s plea against Mahesh Raut’s bail is also likely to be taken up.
Supreme Court directs Hany Babu to approach High Court or trial court for bail in the Elgar Parishad case. The Court refused to clarify its earlier order and granted liberty to revive his withdrawn plea.
Mahesh Raut, arrested in 2018 for alleged links to the Elgar Parishad case, has been granted interim bail by a special NIA court from April 20 to May 16 to take his law exams. He must meet specific conditions, including a Rs 50,000 bond, and surrender after his exams.
