The Supreme Court has barred State Bar Councils and the BCI from collecting any “optional” charges beyond legal enrolment fees. The Karnataka State Bar Council has been told to halt such collections at once.
The Bar Council of India has strongly condemned the violent assault on its Co-Chairman Y.R. Sadasiva Reddy inside his chamber in Bengaluru. Calling it a direct threat to the legal fraternity, the BCI stated, “Legal professionals are meant to operate safely and independently.”

Today, On 27th September, the Karnataka High Court refused to quash the FIR against Karnataka State Bar Council officials over allegations of misappropriation of Rs. 3.3 crore raised for an advocates’ convention. The court denied the petition by KSBC leaders who sought dismissal of charges related to financial misconduct, emphasizing governance issues within legal bodies.
The Karnataka State Bar Council has formally requested the Chief Justice of India and the Union Law Minister to include judges from Karnataka in the High Court Collegium. The council argues that local judges possess essential regional insights for effective legal administration and maintaining public trust, urging consideration in future appointments.
