New Delhi: Today, 27th March, The Supreme Court has adjourned the hearing on the bail plea of advocate Surendra Gadling and activist Jyoti Jagtap, both arrested in the Elgar Parishad-Maoist links case, by two weeks. A bench of Justices M M Sundresh and Rajesh Bindal also postponed the hearing on the National Investigation Agency’s (NIA) petition challenging the bail granted to activist Mahesh Raut.
NEW DELHI: On February 6, 2025, the Supreme Court of India postponed the hearing on the bail pleas of advocate Surendra Gadling and activist Jyoti Jagtap, who were arrested in the Elgar Parishad-Maoist links case. The bench, consisting of Justices M M Sundresh and Rajesh Bindal, also deferred the hearing on a petition filed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) challenging the bail granted to activist Mahesh Raut by the Bombay High Court.
The Supreme Court today announced it will hear the bail pleas of activists Jyoti Jagtap and Mahesh Raut together in the Bhima Koregaon case. Jagtap, accused of being a member of the banned Kabir Kala Manch, sought bail after previous rejections. Raut, accused of recruiting students for the Communist Party of India (Maoist), remains in jail since June 2018. The case stems from violence following a 2017 event in Pune. Today (16th May): The Supreme Court postponed urban Naxal Jyoti Jagtap’s bail plea hearing in the Bhima Koregaon case to July, citing the summer recess. Initially set for May, the hearing was rescheduled for July 8. Jagtap remains in custody following the Bombay High Court’s previous denial of bail. The case involves alleged incitement to violence during the 2018 Bhima Koregaon event.
