Justice Alok Verma of the Uttarakhand High Court has recused himself from hearing the contempt petition filed by whistleblower IFS officer Sanjiv Chaturvedi. With this, a record 16 judges have withdrawn from cases involving Chaturvedi, highlighting challenges faced by government whistleblowers.
The Uttarakhand High Court, led by Justice Ravindra Maithani and Justice Alok Verma, acquitted two individuals previously sentenced to life imprisonment for murder charges. The court found the prosecution’s circumstantial evidence insufficient to establish guilt, emphasizing the lack of a coherent narrative and conclusive link between the accused and the crime scene.
