NEW DELHI: Today (April 29): The Supreme Court postponed the hearing of the State of West Bengal’s Special Leave Petition (SLP), which challenges the High Court’s order for a CBI investigation into alleged sexual assault, violence, and land grabbing in Sandeshkhali. The adjournment was granted at the request of the state’s counsel, with the court instructing that the petition’s pendency should not be exploited to prolong proceedings in the Calcutta High Court.
Today(on 18th April), Chief Minister Siddaramaiah defends his 2023 election win in Varuna, calling the challenging petition a duplicate and urging the Karnataka High Court for a procedural reassessment. His legal team highlighted widespread copying in election petitions and called for consequences against the petitioner. The court agreed to a further hearing next Wednesday.
Today(on 8th April), The Delhi High Court reprimanded Advocate Jai Anant Dehadrai for speaking to the media after his defamation case hearing against Mahua Moitra. The court summoned Moitra and emphasized that making allegations without an injunction grants Moitra the right to defend herself. The court adjourned the case until April 25. Dehadrai sought Rs. 2 crore in damages and requested media outlets to remove defamatory content.
Today (18th March): The Supreme Court imposed a Rs 50,000 penalty on Adani Power for filing a review of a late payment surcharge case more than two years after the final order. The dispute involved late payments owed by Jaipur Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited to Adani Power. Adani’s application was dismissed amid concerns about delay and integrity of the registry.
