The Jharkhand High Court has quashed criminal proceedings against Chief Minister Hemant Soren in a case alleging violation of the Model Code of Conduct during the 2014 Assembly elections. Soren had been facing prosecution before a district court in West Singhbhum district in connection with the election-related allegations.
The Jharkhand High Court Yesterday (August 13th) directed the state government to identify illegal immigrants from Bangladesh who have taken refuge in six districts of the state. A two-judge bench while hearing a PIL, directed the government to launch a campaign to check the land records and domicile credentials before issuing identity documents like Aadhar card, voter’s ID and ration card to people.
The Jharkhand High Court Yesterday (August 5th) summoned Director General of Police Anurag Gupta and Ranchi SSP Chandan Kumar Sinha to appear in person to explain what action the police are planning to curb the rising crime graph in the state capital. DGP Gupta, accompanied by Ranchi SSP Sinha and Kotwali DSP Prakash Soy, appeared before the bench. They informed the court that the Ranchi police had formed a special investigating team after the murder of advocate Gopi Krishan.
Today(on 29th July), the Supreme Court will hear the Enforcement Directorate’s appeal against the Jharkhand High Court’s bail grant to Chief Minister Hemant Soren in a money laundering case linked to a land scam. The case has drawn attention due to its high-profile nature and serious allegations. Soren maintains his innocence. The hearing will be conducted by a bench of two justices.
