The Supreme Court has issued notice on Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia’s plea challenging denial of bail in a disproportionate assets case but refused to grant him interim relief. The case, alleging accumulation of assets worth over Rs 540 crore, will be heard next on January 19.
The Supreme Court of India denied Arif Nisar’s interim bail request linked to a Rs 3,558 crore cloud rental scam, citing a lack of urgent medical need. The Enforcement Directorate claims Nisar misled investors, using funds from new investors to pay existing ones in a Ponzi-like scheme, without generating legitimate rental income.
Zafar Ali, president of the Shahi Jama Masjid management committee, was denied bail by a Sambhal court following his arrest on March 23 for involvement in communal violence during a protest against a mosque survey. The court cited serious allegations against him, including inciting unrest and property damage, leading to continued custody.
The Rajasthan High Court denied Asaram’s bail petition, stating he violated Supreme Court conditions while on interim bail. His lawyer must submit an affidavit addressing these allegations. Following the end of his bail, Asaram was briefly hospitalized but remains in custody due to pending cases, including a life sentence for rape.
