Yesterday, On 30th October, the CBI reported to the Calcutta High Court on the illegal hiring practices at RG Kar Medical College under former principal Dr. Sandip Ghosh. Ghosh allegedly held fictitious interviews, manipulated results, and conducted appointments based on favoritism and corruption, raising serious concerns about transparency and fairness in recruitment.
Today (30th April): A Calcutta High Court lawyer, Vikas Ranjan Bhattacharya, faced protests from job recipients outside the court. The demonstrators accused him of involvement in unfair hiring practices, claiming that he was “eating the job.” The protests followed a hearing on corruption in the primary recruitment process, related to the 2014 TET exam. Despite the tense situation, the police intervened and restored order.
The Calcutta High Court has directed the CID SIT to expedite the compilation of data on illegal appointments in state-run schools, warning of a potential transfer to the CBI due to dissatisfaction with the SIT’s progress. Concerns about delayed detentions and accountability have prompted the court’s urgency. Instances of illegal appointments have been identified, including those involving the SSC regional chairperson’s spouse.
