The Supreme Court of India has transferred Ilaiyaraaja’s copyright suit from the Madras High Court to the Bombay High Court in the ongoing dispute with Sony Music Entertainment India.
The Court said the dispute should be heard in Bombay since the original copyright case was already pending there.
The Delhi High Court has restrained Ilaiyaraaja from exploiting sound recordings and musical works owned by Saregama in 134 films. The Court held that allowing such use may cause irreparable loss to the music company and passed an interim injunction.
Today, On 15th October, The Supreme Court sought a reply from Ilaiyaraaja Music N Management Pvt Ltd on Sony Entertainment’s plea to transfer a fresh copyright dispute from the Madras High Court to the Bombay High Court, following dismissal of a similar earlier case.

Today, On 14th July, music legend Ilaiyaraaja has approached the Supreme Court seeking transfer of a copyright case involving 536 of his compositions from the Bombay High Court to the Madras High Court for fair adjudication.
