A Public Interest Litigation has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking to declare air pollution a National Public Health Emergency and to direct the government to create a time-bound National Action Plan with statutory backing for urgent implementation across India.
Residents in East Delhi have reported contaminated, black water since June 12. The Delhi High Court mandated the Delhi Jal Board to inspect affected areas and ensure clean drinking water is supplied. Failure to resolve this issue poses serious health risks, prompting further hearings scheduled for July 5.
