The Supreme Court disposed of a plea filed by Sonam Wangchuk’s wife after the Centre revoked his detention under the National Security Act. The Court said that since the detention order was already cancelled, nothing remained to be decided in the case.
Today, On 26th February, The Supreme Court has postponed the hearing on the petition filed by Gitanjali J Angmo, wife of detained climate activist Sonam Wangchuk. The plea challenging his detention under the National Security Act has been rescheduled for March 10.
Gitanjali J Angmo urged the Supreme Court to stop delays in the hearing against Sonam Wangchuk’s preventive detention under the NSA. The Court will examine disputed video transcripts before reserving judgment next week.

Kapil Sibal argued, “Showing selective content is insufficient; all material must be supplied,” stressing authorities have a constitutional duty to provide complete relied-upon documents.

Today, On 29th January, The Supreme Court resumed hearings on a petition challenging the detention of activist Sonam Wangchuk under the National Security Act. Wangchuk told the Court he has the right to criticize and protest without posing threat to state security.

Today, On 12th January, Sonam Wangchuk’s wife told the Supreme Court that NSA detention based on irrelevant material is bad law. Senior advocate Kapil Sibal called the detention unconstitutional and procedurally flawed as the Court resumed hearings on the petition challenging Wangchuk’s NSA detention.
Sonam Wangchuk’s wife told the Supreme Court that his speech clearly appealed for peace and was meant to stop violence, not provoke it. She also alleged that key videos and full grounds of detention were not provided, violating constitutional safeguards.
