Justice MS Sonak bid farewell to the Bombay High Court before assuming charge as Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court. He urged the Bar to guide the judiciary and said criticism strengthens the institution despite discomfort and challenges.
Today, On 26th July, CJI Gavai confirmed he won’t accept any government position after his retirement on November 24. He stated he will instead take up consultation and arbitration, while speaking at the inauguration of the Late T R Gilda Memorial E-Library at the Amravati District and Sessions Court.

On his final day, CJI Sanjiv Khanna emphasized the legal profession’s “truth deficit,” urging both Bar and Bench to prioritize public trust and uphold integrity. He articulated that judges should neither dominate nor surrender in the courtroom. Khanna plans to remain engaged in the legal field post-retirement without taking official roles.
At his farewell, Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma discussed his judicial transfer to the Calcutta High Court, acknowledging opposition from Kolkata lawyers but expressing no resentment. Bar Council vice-chairman Ved Prakash Sharma emphasized the importance of judicial transfers for independence. Justice Sharma highlighted the judge’s duty to maintain the law’s connection with the people.
