The Supreme Court has asked the Centre to respond to Tamil Nadu’s plea challenging a Madras High Court order directing the State to reimburse private schools Rs 314.98 crore for EWS quota admissions. The State argues that the Union has not released its share of RTE funds since 2021.
The Delhi High Court, on March 5th, temporarily adjusted the income threshold for EWS school admissions to Rs 2.5 lakh, overturning a previous ruling setting it at Rs 5 lakh. The division bench’s decision aims to facilitate admissions for economically weaker families. This modification follows the government’s appeal, citing difficulties in implementing the higher threshold.
