The Supreme Court has stayed proceedings against Tamil Nadu Minister I Periyasamy and his family in a Rs 2.1 crore disproportionate assets case. The top court also issued a notice, pausing the trial ordered by the Madras High Court.
A Mohali court has dismissed Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia’s bail plea in the disproportionate assets case linked to laundering of Rs 540 crore “drug money.” Prosecutor Ferry Sofat said the plea was rejected due to the ongoing probe and serious nature of offences.
Bikram Singh Majithia, leader of the Shiromani Akali Dal, challenges his arrest in a disproportionate assets case, claiming it is politically motivated. The Punjab and Haryana High Court has deferred the hearing to July 29, allowing Majithia’s lawyers time to amend their petition against alleged political witch-hunting and abuse of legal processes.
In the disproportionate assets case, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has asked the Advocate General to respond to Bikram Singh Majithia’s petition challenging his arrest and remand, but no interim relief was granted yet.
Retired Judge Kemal Pasha apologized to Dr. K M Abraham and removed two videos where he made derogatory remarks about him, following a legal notice threatening a defamation suit for Rs 2 crore. Pasha admitted to misjudging the situation and assured no further comments would be made against Abraham.

She has filed a Special Leave Petition (SLP) challenging a Karnataka High Court order that refused to release Jayalalithaa’s assets to her.
Today, On 27th January, The Supreme Court rejected the request to transfer the corruption case against YS Jagan Mohan Reddy from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The Court noted that the High Court is already overseeing the case and has directed daily hearings at the trial court, making a transfer unnecessary. The decision emphasizes the ongoing monitoring of the case at the local level. The ruling indicates confidence in the existing judicial process.
Satyendar Jain, former Delhi minister and AAP leader, faces prosecution by the CBI for allegedly acquiring disproportionate assets of Rs1.62 crore during his public service from 2015 to 2017. Jain, arrested in May 2022 under money laundering charges, is currently in judicial custody, with ongoing legal proceedings regarding his interim bail.
