The Supreme Court of India has issued a notice to Delhi’s Directorate of Education regarding a petition by the Naya Samaj Parents Association. Parents are challenging a Delhi High Court ruling that permits private schools to hike tuition fees without prior approval, alleging that such increases are causing panic and unfairly impacting families.
The Delhi High Court criticized DPS Dwarka for expelling 32 students over unpaid fees without prior warning. Parents argued the school’s actions violated previous court orders protecting students’ interests. Serious allegations include mistreatment and harassment of affected students. The court has scheduled further hearings to address the matter and ensure educational rights are upheld.
A plea has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking the admission of Rohingya refugee children in local schools. The petition argues that these children should be allowed access to education as part of their basic rights. It highlights the importance of providing them with opportunities for a better future. On 17th May, The Delhi Police responded to bomb threat concerns in schools by deploying bomb disposal squads and detection teams, conducting 120 mock drills, and issuing comprehensive guidelines. They have a total of 5 bomb disposal squads and 18 bomb detection teams to cover over 4,600 schools. The Directorate of Education is also actively involved in promoting school safety.
