Lawyers across all Delhi district courts boycotted work to protest the alleged wrongful arrest of advocate Vikram Singh by Gurugram Police’s STF. The legal fraternity called it an attack on the independence of the profession and demanded immediate withdrawal of charges.
The coordination committee of Delhi’s district court bar associations has announced a full strike on November 6, protesting the alleged false implication of advocate Vikaram Singh in a murder case. Lawyers say the Gurugram STF’s action is an attack on the independence of the legal profession.
The Delhi High Court raised concerns over the LG’s August 13 notification designating police stations for recording police statements via video conferencing, saying it may compromise fair trials. The Court asked the Centre to explain the reasoning behind this choice by December 10.
Delhi district court lawyers withdrew their strike after Police Commissioner Satish Golcha assured that police officers will physically appear in courts to give evidence. Bar leaders said their immediate demand was met, though BNSS amendment remains a long-term goal.
The Bar Council of India has urged Delhi bar associations to withdraw their indefinite strike from September 8, stressing that most concerns over police witness video conferencing have already been addressed. BCI Chairman Manan Kumar Mishra said repeated strikes harm litigants and weaken the bar’s credibility.

All Delhi district court lawyers will abstain from work on August 22-23 to protest a notification allowing police stations to record evidence. The Bar calls it “arbitrary, unlawful and anti-justice.”
