Today, On 24th July, In the defamation case filed by ex-UN diplomat Lakshmi Murdeshwar Puri against TMC MP Saket Gokhale, the Delhi High Court urged both sides to resolve the matter, saying, “Please take into consideration courts are already overflooded.”
The Delhi High Court criticized Saket Gokhale’s affidavit in his defamation case against Lakshmi Puri, directing him to withdraw it due to improper references. Gokhale, appealing a Rs 50 lakh compensation order for defamatory tweets, must submit a corrected affidavit by the next hearing on July 22, 2024.
Today, On 21st May, The Delhi High Court strongly criticised Abhijit Iyer-Mitra for his tweets against Newslaundry journalists, saying, “A person who uses such language should not be heard,” and ordered the posts to be taken down.
The Delhi High Court ordered the removal of defamatory tweets targeting ‘The New Indian’ and its Editor-in-Chief by ‘4 PM Evening Newspaper.’ The court found bias against the ruling establishment in these tweets and emphasized the importance of unbiased journalism. The injunction prohibits further defamatory content and is scheduled for further hearing on October 29, 2024.
The Delhi High Court directed TMC MP Saket Gokhale to pay Rs 50 lakh in damages to former diplomat Lakshmi Puri for a defamation case. Gokhale was also mandated to publish an apology in The Times of India and on his X handle within eight weeks. The court’s order followed allegations of defamatory tweets made by Gokhale against Puri.
