A Delhi court has held NDTV’s Gargi Rawat liable for defamation for liking a tweet that falsely accused Abhijit Iyer-Mitra of rape. She has been ordered to pay Rs 10,000 in damages and delete the tweet if still visible.
The Delhi High Court directed Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit to re-file his defamation suit against AAP leaders Atishi and Sanjay Singh. The court denied him additional time to pay the required court fees. Dikshit had sought Rs.10 crore in damages over alleged defamatory remarks made during a press conference before the Delhi elections. The case will proceed once the filing is completed.
Congress leader Digvijay Singh seeks dismissal of a defamation suit filed by RSS member Vivek Champanerkar over a tweet about former RSS chief Golwalkar. Singh argues that the suit lacks merit as it targets the RSS and Golwalkar, not Champanerkar personally. The court is set to hear detailed arguments from both parties on August 12.
