The Delhi High Court has refused to discharge TV Today Network in a criminal defamation case filed by BJP leader Ramesh Bidhuri over a 2011 Aaj Tak report, upholding the Magistrate’s order. The Court ruled that once summons are issued in a summons trial, the Magistrate cannot recall or annul the order.
NEW DELHI: On Monday(30th Sept), the Supreme Court stayed the proceedings in a criminal defamation case against Delhi Chief Minister Atishi and former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, which was initiated due to comments regarding the purported removal of voters’ names from the electoral rolls in the national capital.
The Kerala High Court quashed defamation proceedings against the Managing Director of Rashtra Deepika, stating he has no direct role in selecting news items, which is the responsibility of the Chief Editor. The court ruled that criminal prosecution against the MD would not succeed, highlighting the ordinary roles in news selection.
