Actor R Madhavan has approached the Delhi High Court seeking protection of his personality rights against AI-generated deepfake content, including a fake trailer of the non-existent film “Kesari 3,” and unauthorized use of his image across digital platforms.
The Delhi High Court told social media platforms to act quickly when users report deepfakes, saying, “People should not be made to come to court for issues like these.” Justice Manmeet Arora warned that the court cannot become a grievance redressal forum for such complaints.
The Delhi High Court has protected journalist Sudhir Chaudhary’s personality rights, ordering the removal of AI-generated and deepfake content from social media. Uploaders have 48 hours to comply, failing which Google and Meta will act.
The Supreme Court of India declined to hear a PIL regarding AI-generated deepfake videos of Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, advising the petitioner to approach the Delhi High Court, which is already addressing similar issues. The bench acknowledged the seriousness of the matter but stressed the importance of the ongoing proceedings in the High Court.
