Supreme Court Commutes Sentence of Man in Family Murder-Rape Case: “Imposition of Death Penalty Would Be Unjustified”

A three‑judge Bench led by Justices Vikram Nath, Sanjay Karol and Sandeep Mehta set aside Reji Kumar’s death penalty, citing his 16‑17 years of good conduct, reformative efforts and mental health issues. He will now spend the rest of his life in prison instead of facing capital punishment.
