Four Supreme Court judges stressed the need for India’s judiciary to adapt to emerging challenges from data, AI, and technology. Speaking at an international event in Indore, they called for fairness, innovation, and legal reforms in the digital era.
The Supreme Court directed all the States and Union Territories (UTs) to furnish detailed information on the strength of officers and other staff in jails. The Court was hearing a suo motu plea from 2013 regarding overcrowding and inhumane conditions in Indian prisons.
The Madras High Court Today (Oct 25) directed social media platform Telegram to immediately block and delete any posts or “chatbots” flagged by insurance company Star Health Insurance for leaking its customer data that was hacked recently. The Court was hearing a petition filed by Star Health against Telegram and five others after it discovered that a hacker was using Telegram to leak sensitive company and customer data.

Preservation of each EVM’s data will cost Rs 40,000, the Election Commission of India (ECI) informed the Delhi High Court Yesterday (Sept 4) during a hearing on a plea filed by AAP MLA Somnath Bharti challenging the election of BJP’s Bansuri Swaraj to the Lok Sabha earlier this year. When pointed out that with 1,490 such machines, the cost of preserving them would come to around Rs 6 crore, Bharti informed the court that he doesn’t “have that kind of money.”
