Former Tamil Nadu BJP chief CP Radhakrishnan has been elected as India’s next Vice President after securing majority support in Parliament. He defeated Opposition nominee B Sudershan Reddy as several regional parties abstained.
BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad criticised former SC judge Sudershan Reddy for meeting fodder scam convict Lalu Prasad Yadav, calling it “hypocrisy in extreme.” The Vice Presidential election on September 9 will see Reddy face NDA’s CP Radhakrishnan.
Justice B Sudershan Reddy said the Salwa Judum verdict was the Supreme Court’s collective decision, not his personal stand, after Amit Shah accused him of “supporting Naxalism.” He stressed, “The judgment is not mine, the judgment is of the Supreme Court.”
Home Minister Amit Shah accused INDIA bloc’s VP nominee, Justice B Sudershan Reddy, of supporting Naxalism through his 2011 Salwa Judum judgment. He claimed the ruling weakened India’s fight against extremism.
The NDA has declared Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan as its Vice President candidate, highlighting his “40-year experience in politics and many hats.” He will contest against the Opposition nominee on September 9, with NDA numbers favouring him.
