The Supreme Court urged the government to phase out luxury petrol and diesel vehicles, promoting wider adoption of electric vehicles (EVs). Justice Surya Kant said banning high-end cars first “will not affect the common man.”

Justices highlighted the importance of balancing technological advancement with employment, underscoring the need for effective implementation of EV policies and infrastructure development.
The Supreme Court will hear a PIL seeking a court-monitored investigation into the electoral bonds scheme on July 22. Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra scheduled the hearing after reviewing submissions from lawyer Prashant Bhushan representing Common Cause and CPIL.
