Meanwhile, Kolkata Police suspended Inspector Abhijit Mondal, who is also in CBI custody for tampering with evidence and obstructing the investigation.
On Tuesday(17th Sept), Kolkata court extended the CBI custody of Dr. Sandip Ghosh, ex-principal of RG Kar hospital, and police officer Abhijit Mondal for 3 days in connection with a doctor’s rape and murder case. Both are being investigated for their alleged involvement.
The CBI arrested the ex-principal of RG Kar Medical College and a police officer in connection with the heinous rape and murder of a trainee doctor, suspecting a larger conspiracy. Today, Sanjoy Roy, accused in Kolkata doctor rape-murder case, has been sent to 14-day judicial custody after his CBI custody ended. The court has approved the administration of a polygraph test on him and four others connected to the case. Polygraph tests are used to assist investigators in their inquiries, although their results are not admissible in court.
Former Gitanjali Group executive Sunil Varma, accused in the PNB scam, was granted interim bail by an anti-money laundering court. The CBI sought custody, alleging his involvement in orchestrating the scam. Varma, who had been evading the authorities, appeared in court following the suspension of a non-bailable warrant. Varma’s lawyer argued that the summons were incorrectly served.

Rakesh Ranjan, implicated in the NEET-UG paper leak, was arrested in Nalanda, Bihar. The CBI was granted custody of 13 suspects by the Patna High Court for interrogation. Ranjan’s alleged involvement in orchestrating solvers for the exam was identified through digital evidence. The scandal affected over 24 lakh candidates and led to significant legal actions against the NTA.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been sent to judicial custody until July 12 in a corruption case related to the 2021-22 Delhi Excise Policy after being held in CBI custody. The CBI argued that his custody was necessary to confront him with evidence. Kejriwal is also facing a money laundering case connected to the same policy.
