Kerala Govt Drops Black Magic Ban Bill, Cites Cabinet Policy Shift in High Court

The Kerala government informed the High Court that it will not proceed with the 2022 Black Magic Bill aimed at banning sorcery and inhuman practices, due to a cabinet policy decision. Today(6th September),The Gujarat High Court urged the State government to quickly implement and publicize the new law aimed at curbing black magic and related practices. The law, officially named the Gujarat Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and Other Inhuman Practices Act, 2024, seeks to protect citizens from harmful rituals.

The Karnataka High Court clarified that the Karnataka Black Magic Act, 2017, applies only when black magic is performed or attempted. The Court dismissed a husband’s complaint against his wife under this Act. Justice M. Nagaprasanna emphasized the importance of the term “performing” as used in the Act and highlighted the lack of evidence in the case.
