The Rajasthan High Court has extended self-styled godman Asaram’s interim bail till August 29 after reviewing his medical reports. A special doctor’s panel will examine his ‘critical’ health and submit a report by August 27.
The Supreme Court On January 7 granted interim bail to Asaram, 86, in a 2013 rape case due to health concerns, until March 31. Asaram was convicted in January 2023 and his appeal is pending. The court emphasized it would only consider ongoing health issues while rejecting previous suspension requests by the Gujarat High Court.
The Supreme Court today stayed its decision to record only the appearances of lawyers physically or online during hearings in court orders. Senior Counsel Kapil Sibal raised the issue, leading to a delay in the implementation of the order issued on August 29. The next hearing is scheduled for September 11. The court emphasized that only actively participating lawyers should have their presence recorded.
