Untouchability Beyond Life? Madras High Court Says Denial of Burial Access to SCs Is a Criminal Offence

The Madras High Court has ruled that denying Scheduled Caste members access to public burial or cremation grounds amounts to practising untouchability under Article 17 of the Constitution. The Court said such acts attract criminal action under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.

Tamil Nadu Water Contamination Case: ‘No Caste Angle, Transfer the Case’: Special Court

A special court in Pudukkottai accepted the CB-CID report stating that three Dalits were responsible for contaminating drinking water with human Waste. The report ruled out any caste-related motive in the incident. As a result, the case was transferred to a different court for further proceedings. The ruling dismisses allegations of caste-based atrocity in the matter.
