Haldwani is under heavy security ahead of the Supreme Court’s verdict on the major railway land encroachment case involving over 4,300 families. Authorities have deployed massive forces as residents fear large-scale eviction without a relocation plan.
The Supreme Court today directed the Central Government and Uttarakhand authorities to develop a rehabilitation policy for 4,365 families living near Haldwani Railway Station. The court emphasized the humane treatment of encroachers and criticized the Railways’ approach. It called for a balanced approach addressing long-term residents’ needs and specified measures for identifying land and relocating families.
