Today, On 2nd September, The Delhi High Court has refused to grant bail to Umar Khalid, Sharjeel Imam and seven others accused in the larger conspiracy case under UAPA related to the 2020 north-east Delhi riots, citing serious allegations against them.

A Delhi court said WhatsApp messages can’t be strong evidence in murder cases from the 2020 Delhi riots. All 12 accused were acquitted as there were no strong witnesses and chats alone weren’t enough.
A Delhi court ordered an FIR against SHO Jyoti Nagar, Mr. Tomar, for allegedly beating Muslim men, forcing them to chant “Jai Shri Ram” and “Vande Mataram” during the 2020 Delhi riots. The incident, caught on video, also involved wrongful confinement and intimidation. The Court slammed the police for hate crimes and lack of proper investigation, directing further inquiry into the roles of other officers involved.
The court granted parole to Tahir Hussain, an accused in the Delhi riots, allowing him to file his nomination for upcoming elections. The Delhi High Court will hear Umar Khalid’s bail plea regarding a UAPA case related to the 2020 Delhi riots. Co-accused Sharjeel Imam, Gulfisha Fatima, and Khalid Saifi will also have their pleas reviewed. Khalid has been denied bail multiple times, with previous appeals dismissed as lacking merit. The court noted credible allegations against him.
Today, 15th April, The Delhi High Court asked the Enforcement Directorate to provide evidence supporting Tahir Hussain’s plea to dismiss the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) case related to the 2020 riots. The court reviewing the maintainability of the plea and scheduled the hearing for September. Hussain’s lawyer will also be allowed to file a response.
Former Delhi Congress councillor and lawyer Ishrat Jahan, accused in the 2020 Delhi riots UAPA case, granted revised bail terms allowing her to travel anywhere in India with prior court permission. The court acknowledged her professional obligations and found no evidence of bail condition breaches. The Delhi Police’s appeal against her bail decision is pending before the Delhi High Court.
