NEW DELHI: Xylem Kozhikode, a renowned entrance coaching center, has announced its decision to take legal action against the National Testing Agency (NTA) over alleged discrepancies in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2024 results.
The institution has raised concerns regarding the timing and transparency of the NEET exam results, especially in the context of the concurrent announcement of the Lok Sabha election results.
The press release emphasized-
“The NEET exam result should not be announced amidst the fervor of Lok Sabha election results, lacking due media attention.”
Xylem Kozhikode highlighted several anomalies in the NEET 2024 rank list, particularly the unprecedented scoring patterns observed this year.
A student who answers all questions correctly will get 720 marks in NEET exam. If a student doesn’t get 720, the next mark will be either 716 or 715 only. But in this year’s exam rank list, it is seen that the students got 719 and 718 marks for the first time.
These observations have led to questions about the legitimacy of the scoring process used by the NTA.
The institution pointed out-
“The National Testing Agency clarifies that grace marks were added, noting that such leniency has not been a precedent in the country’s NEET examinations.”
The announcement has triggered a wave of concern among students and parents alike, who rely on the integrity of competitive exams like NEET for fair assessment and selection in medical colleges. Xylem Kozhikode’s decision to approach the Supreme Court reflects the gravity of the issue and the potential implications it holds for the future of medical entrance examinations in India.
By bringing this case to the highest court in the country, Xylem Kozhikode aims to ensure that the NEET examination process remains transparent and fair, maintaining the trust of millions of aspiring medical students. The institution’s challenge against the NTA’s handling of the NEET 2024 results is expected to pave the way for more stringent regulations and oversight in the conduct of such pivotal national examinations.
The legal proceedings initiated by Xylem Kozhikode will not only scrutinize the NTA’s practices but also seek to establish clearer guidelines to prevent any future discrepancies in competitive exams. This case could potentially lead to significant reforms in the administration of entrance tests, ensuring that merit and accuracy are upheld without exception.
Amidst the ongoing scrutiny surrounding the integrity of national examinations, recent allegations from the Xylem team concerning the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) have stirred considerable controversy. The team has raised serious concerns about the credibility of the grading process and the security of the examination papers, suggesting a possible compromise that could affect thousands of students nationwide.
The core of the allegations pivots on the unexpected distribution of grace marks. The Xylem team has pointedly criticized the National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducts the NEET, for its silence on the potential issuance of such marks.
“The National Testing Agency has not disclosed any intention to award grace marks. Consequently, the allegation of fraudulent allocation of these marks is of grave concern.”
-the Xylem team alleged.
Such concerns are magnified by the statistical anomaly observed in this year’s examination results. Historically, NEET has been known for its stringent evaluation, rarely yielding perfect scores.
“Since the inception of the NEET examination in 2016, only a few students achieved full marks. However, this year, a significant increase is noted with 67 candidates securing the top rank.”
-noted the team.
Further exacerbating the issue is the claim of a potential leak of the examination paper, a serious accusation that undermines the exam’s fairness and transparency. The Xylem team has reported that the examination papers were not only prematurely available on digital platforms but also physically mishandled. “The allegation that the question paper was available on some Telegram channels before the exam date and the news that the question paper was seen left on the roadside while the exam was going on indicates that the question paper may have been leaked in many places before the exam,” the Xylem team stated.
These allegations, if substantiated, point to significant vulnerabilities in the administration of one of India’s most critical examinations, affecting not just the current batch of aspirants but potentially eroding trust in the system for future generations.
