A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court demanding a CBI investigation into a former Madhya Pradesh Home Minister over an alleged triple murder. The plea claims that police have not acted despite multiple complaints and statements from the victims’ family accusing the former minister. It highlights concerns about the lack of action and calls for an impartial probe. The case raises questions about accountability and justice.

New Delhi: A Dalit mother approached the Supreme Court, requesting a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the alleged murder of three family members by former Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Bhupendra Singh. The victims include her 20-year-old daughter, Anjana Ahirwar, her son, and her brother-in-law.

The petitioner, Badibahu, represented by senior lawyer Colin Gonsalves and advocate Meenesh Dubey, urged the Supreme Court for an impartial investigation into the triple homicide involving Singh.

On Wednesday, a two-judge bench comprising Justice J. K. Maheshwari and Justice Aravind Kumar heard the plea and issued notices to both the Madhya Pradesh government and the CBI, seeking detailed responses in the case.

In her petition, Badibahu stated that the murdered family members belonged to the Scheduled Caste (SC) community, highlighting the alleged sabotage of the investigation and the killing of eyewitnesses as results of a criminal conspiracy led by the former Home Minister and members of the village’s dominant community.

She asserted,

“The former Home Minister of MP may wreak further vengeance on my family and me for making complaints against his associates and him to the police,”

Badibahu detailed the loss of three family members: her son Nitin, brother-in-law Rajendra, and daughter Anjana. She claimed that after the murders, the police provided full support to the accused due to the involvement of the former State Home Minister and his associates.

She added,

“As a result, no prosecution of the accused persons is possible in the State of Madhya Pradesh,”

She emphasized the political power of the former Home Minister, who currently serves as an MLA from Sagar district, stating that he has been influencing and threatening witnesses.

She noted,

“He is a powerful and influential person,”

Badibahu expressed that she had no alternative but to seek justice from the apex court.

She stated,

“There is a complete failure of the police authorities in Madhya Pradesh to conduct an unbiased and fair investigation, as well as to protect the witnesses,”

Citing various Supreme Court judgments that mandated CBI investigations, including the 2016 case of Dharam Pal versus State of Haryana, she insisted on a CBI inquiry.

She remarked,

“The purpose is to ensure a fair investigation and trial. A fair trial may be quite difficult unless there is a fair investigation,”

The plea highlighted a lack of action by the Madhya Pradesh Police against the former Home Minister, despite numerous complaints and statements from the victims’ family.

The petition concluded,

“The failure of the Madhya Pradesh Police to conduct a fair investigation, coupled with ongoing political pressure and threats faced by the deceased’s family members since 2019, warrants a CBI inquiry led by officers from outside the state,”

She also requested that the cases be transferred to Delhi to ensure a fair and just investigation and trial.
