Today, On 13th March, The Supreme Court of India declined to entertain a petition seeking action against individuals and groups accused of spreading misinformation through posters and public statements regarding the Tirumala laddu controversy, stating that such issues require appropriate remedies elsewhere.

The Supreme Court declined to entertain a petition seeking directions to act against individuals or organizations accused of spreading misinformation via posters or public statements about the Tirumala laddu controversy.

Earlier, On October 4, 2024, the Court had constituted a five-member independent SIT to investigate claims that animal fat was used in the preparation of Tirupati laddus, noting the need to “assuage the feelings of crores of people” and warning that the courtroom should not be turned into a “political battleground.”

A Bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi observed that a criminal case has already been registered and the inquiry is underway.

The Bench said the petitioner or anyone else with relevant information may provide materials to the investigating agency to help bring the probe to a proper conclusion.

The entire controversy relates to claims that the ghee used in the famous Tirupati prasadam laddus was adulterated, which has triggered serious concerns about the purity and sanctity of the prasad offered to devotees.

According to case records, an FIR was registered on 25 September 2024, and later the Supreme Court, in its October 2024 order, entrusted the probe to a Special Investigation Team.
