TDP Double Murder Case | Completely unacceptable: Supreme Court Slams YSRCP Leader Pinnelli Ramakrishna Reddy

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court of India (SC), in a bench presided over by Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta, has sharply reprimanded former MLA Pinnelli Ramakrishna Reddy and his brother Pinnelli Venkatarami Reddy, accused in the double murder of two Telugu Desam Party (TDP) workers, over how they “suspiciously obtained” the case diary while the investigation is still underway.

The court ordered their return to custody, stating that “further interrogation is needed.” Justice Mehta expressed astonishment at the brothers’ apparent influence, questioning how they could access sensitive investigation documents at this stage, calling it “completely unacceptable.” The bench stated:

“We’re stunned by the influence the accused wields. How did you even get the case diary at this stage? Completely unacceptable.”

This follows earlier developments: in August 2025, the Andhra Pradesh High Court had rejected their anticipatory bail pleas. In September, the Supreme Court granted them interim protection against arrest while their pleas were being heard.

Background of the Case

Earlier, the Supreme Court granted interim protection from arrest to YSRCP leader and former MLA Pinnelli Ramakrishna Reddy and his brother Pinnelli Venkatarami Reddy in the double murder case involving two TDP activists. The matter was heard by a bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta, with Senior Advocates Siddharth Dave and Shoeb Alam representing the petitioners.

The brothers had approached the Supreme Court after the Andhra Pradesh High Court dismissed their anticipatory bail plea on August 29, 2025, linked to an FIR registered on May 24, 2025, at Veldurthy Police Station, Palnadu district, following the murder of Javishetti Venkateshwarlu (Moddayya) and Javisetti Koteswara Rao.

In their plea, the Pinnelli brothers argued that they were being falsely implicated in a political vendetta after the TDP came to power in June 2024. The petition described Pinnelli Ramakrishna Reddy as a senior political leader, former MLA from Macherla for 15 years (2009–2024), and former YSRCP party whip (2019–2024). It claimed that allegations of 14 pending criminal cases were misleading, asserting that four cases had already resulted in acquittal, quashing, or withdrawal.

The petition argued that the accusations were malicious and politically motivated, intended solely to target opposition leaders.
