Today, On 27th January, The Supreme Court rejected the request to transfer the corruption case against YS Jagan Mohan Reddy from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The Court noted that the High Court is already overseeing the case and has directed daily hearings at the trial court, making a transfer unnecessary. The decision emphasizes the ongoing monitoring of the case at the local level. The ruling indicates confidence in the existing judicial process.
New Delhi: The Supreme Court, on Monday, dismissed a request from Andhra Pradesh Deputy Speaker Raghu Rama Krishna Raju to transfer the trial concerning former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy‘s disproportionate assets case from Hyderabad to another city, ideally Delhi.
Justices BV Nagarathna and Satish Chandra Sharma stated that the High Court is already overseeing the case and has mandated daily hearings, rendering a transfer unnecessary.

Subsequently dismissing the plea, The Court remarked,
“The High Court is monitoring the process before the concerned CBI court and has directed day-to-day hearings. When the High Court has expressed this, the petitioner claims a transfer is required due to delays in prosecution and trial before the CBI court. We do not believe a transfer of cases against YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is warranted,”
It is noteworthy that Raju, who was a Member of Parliament associated with the YSR Congress Party when he filed the plea in 2023 against his party leader, later switched allegiances to the Telugu Desam Party in March 2024 and secured a win in the 2024 assembly elections from the Undi constituency.
Raju argued for the trial’s relocation outside Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, alleging that the state machinery was favoring Reddy by delaying trial proceedings. He highlighted that even the CBI had not contested a High Court decision that exempted Reddy from personal court appearances.
Raju pointed out that the trial has been ongoing for over a decade without charges being framed, and he requested the transfer to ensure a fair trial and prevent any collusion between the CBI and Reddy.
Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi represented Reddy, while Advocates Balaji Srinivasan and Rohan Dewan appeared for Raju.
