NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court of India is set to hear a significant petition today,(on June 11), regarding the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET-UG) 2024 exam. This petition seeks to cancel the NEET-UG 2024 examination due to serious allegations of paper leaks.

A vacation bench consisting of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta will preside over this crucial hearing. The petition was initiated by a group of discontented students alongside Vivek Pandey, who filed a fresh petition with the Supreme Court on June 1. They have requested a reconducting of the NEET-UG exam through an urgent writ petition, urging the court to expedite the hearing process.

The impetus for this case stems from a Bihar police investigation into the NEET UG paper leak allegations. Following the declaration of the results on June 4, an unusual pattern emerged: 67 students scored a perfect 720/720, with six of them hailing from the same center. This anomaly has raised significant concerns and cast a shadow over the integrity of the exam.

The National Testing Agency (NTA), responsible for conducting the NEET-UG exam, has come under intense scrutiny. Allegations against the NTA include issues of grace marks and mismanagement. The disgruntled students have been vocal in their demands for a re-examination, insisting that the current results cannot be deemed fair or valid.

The petitioners argue that-

“The integrity of the NEET-UG 2024 exam has been compromised due to the widespread paper leak.”

They claim that-

“Reconducting the examination is imperative to ensure a level playing field for all candidates.”

The petitioners further assert that-

“The NTA’s mismanagement has exacerbated the situation, leaving students in a state of uncertainty and distress.”

Adding to the gravity of the situation, the Bihar police have made significant progress in their investigation. They have reportedly uncovered substantial evidence pointing to the paper leak. This has intensified the call for immediate judicial intervention.

The petitioners emphasize that-

“The integrity of the examination process must be upheld to maintain public trust.”

The petition highlights the unprecedented nature of the results, stating that-

“The occurrence of six students scoring perfect marks from the same center is statistically improbable, indicating potential foul play.”

This situation has led to widespread speculation and demands for transparency in the examination process.

In their urgent writ petition, the students and Vivek Pandey have requested the Supreme Court to “direct the NTA to reconduct the NEET-UG 2024 exam at the earliest.”

They argue that –

“Any delay in addressing these serious allegations will further erode the credibility of the examination system.”

As the Supreme Court prepares to hear this petition, all eyes are on the vacation bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta. The outcome of this hearing could have far-reaching implications for the NEET-UG 2024 examination and the future of medical entrance exams in India.
