Supreme Court Slams Lawyers' Chaos: "We Will Simply Throw Away the Files"

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court Bench faced a chaotic situation during a hearing as multiple lawyers spoke simultaneously, making it difficult for the judges to maintain order.

The continuous disruptions led to visible frustration among the judges.

The Bench orally observed that if such indiscipline continued,

“We will simply throw away the files.”

This strong remark highlighted the gravity of the situation, as the court struggled to proceed with the case in an orderly manner.

Justice Oka, who was presiding over the hearing, expressed his deep concern regarding the lack of discipline among lawyers in the courtroom.

He remarked,

“Every day we see this indiscipline … and when we ask the lawyers, for whom they are appearing, there is no answer.”

This statement pointed out the disorderly manner in which lawyers were presenting their arguments, making it challenging for the court to understand who was officially representing whom.

Amidst the confusion, a senior counsel addressed the Bench, revealing that many individuals who were not directly connected to the case were interfering with the proceedings.

He alleged that these interlopers were deliberately trying to disrupt the case and get it dismissed.

The judge reiterated his earlier remark, saying,

“Every day we see this indiscipline.”

Agreeing with the judge, the senior counsel elaborated on the issue, stating,

“That is very true. That is part of their strategy to get it knocked out. Those whose IAs are listed are not able to address court. Interlopers come into the picture.”

His statement suggested that the interference of unauthorized individuals was preventing legitimate arguments from being heard, causing delays and confusion.

Another lawyer in the courtroom supported this claim and added,

“Interlopers are succeeding this way.”

This observation indicated that those engaging in such tactics were achieving their goal of disrupting the judicial process.

The ongoing disorder in the courtroom not only frustrated the judges but also raised serious concerns about maintaining discipline and fairness in legal proceedings. The repeated disruptions led to the possibility that the Supreme Court might consider implementing strict rules to prevent such chaotic situations in the future.

If lawyers continue to argue simultaneously without maintaining order, the court may be forced to take stern measures to ensure smooth and fair hearings.
