BREAKING | 'No More Delays': Supreme Court Forms Special Bench to Fast-Track Old Accident and Criminal Cases from August 1

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court of India has formed a special bench that will focus only on old Motor Accident Claim Tribunal (MACT) cases and criminal appeals. This move is aimed at reducing the huge backlog of such cases that have been pending in courts for many years.

This special bench will include Justice K Vinod Chandran and Justice NV Anjaria, and they will sit regularly every Monday and Friday at 2:00 PM to hear these pending matters.

A notice issued by the Supreme Court on July 29 said:

“The Competent Authority has been pleased to constitute a Bench comprising Hon’ble Mr. Justice K Vinod Chandran and Hon’ble Mr Justice NV Anjaria on every Monday and Friday at 2.00 p.m., to hear old Motor Accident Claim Tribunal cases and criminal appeals.”

This means that from August 1 (Friday), this special bench will start hearing the pending cases.

The initiative is being seen as a much-needed boost for litigants who have been waiting for justice for a long time, especially in motor accident compensation and criminal appeal matters.

The Court also made a request to all those involved in these cases – lawyers, petitioners, and other parties – asking them not to delay proceedings unnecessarily. As mentioned in the same notice:

“Members of the bar, parties-in-person and all stakeholders are requested to extend their co-operation by not seeking adjournment.”
