NEW DELHI: The Hon’ble Supreme Court of India and its Registry will pay tribute at 2PM today by observing two minutes of silence in memory of those who tragically lost their lives in a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir.

The act of remembrance is being held to honour the victims and express solidarity with their families.

According to the official circular issued by the Administrative Security Branch of the Supreme Court of India,

“The Hon’ble Supreme Court of India and its Registry will observe two minutes’ silence today, i.e., 23rd April, 2025, at 2.00 p.m. to pay tribute to, and in the memory of, those who lost their lives on account of the act of terrorism in Pahalgam in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir.”

The notice outlines a detailed procedure to ensure proper observance of the tribute.

“Silence is to be observed at 2.00 p.m. today, i.e., 23rd April, 2025, and would last for two minutes.”

To indicate the beginning of the tribute, a siren will be sounded just before the silence begins.

“To indicate the commencement of two minutes’ silence, siren will be sounded from 1.59 p.m. till 2.00 p.m.”

At the designated time of 2:00 p.m., everyone present in the Supreme Court and its Registry — including Hon’ble Judges, lawyers, court staff, and other officials — will stand in silence.

“At the appointed time, i.e., 2.00 p.m., the Hon’ble Judges, lawyers, members of the staff and all other persons present in the Court and in the Registry will stand up and will observe two minutes’ silence.”

To mark the conclusion of the observance, an “all clear” siren will follow.

“After the two minutes’ silence is over ‘all clear siren’ will again be sounded from 2.02 p.m. till 2.03 p.m.”

This observance stands as a solemn reminder of the lives lost in acts of terrorism and is part of the judiciary’s ongoing commitment to peace, respect, and national unity.
