The President of Hindu Sena has approached the Supreme Court with a plea demanding the registration of FIRs against individuals accused of making hate speeches against ‘Sanatan Dharma’, the Shri Ram Temple, and the sacred shrines of Kashi and Mathura. This plea encompasses a call for action against a range of leaders, including Asaduddin Owaisi, Udhayanidhi Stalin, Kamal Haasan, A Raja, Swami Prasad Maurya, among others, highlighting a pressing concern over the alleged derogatory remarks and speeches that target the Hindu community across the country.

The petition, spearheaded by Vishnu Gupta, Hindu Sena President, seeks not only the initiation of legal proceedings but also emphasizes the necessity for an “independent, credible and impartial probe” conducted by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) into these incidents. This move underscores a broader plea for justice and accountability, reflecting deep-seated worries about the potential communal disharmony these speeches could incite.

Central to the controversy are statements made by Udhayanidhi Stalin, Tamil Nadu’s Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, who, during a conference in Chennai, made remarks that have sparked widespread outrage. Stalin’s comparison of ‘Sanatan Dharma’ to diseases like dengue and malaria, suggesting that it “should be eradicated, rather than opposed,” has been met with vehement criticism. Echoing Stalin’s sentiments, Nilgiris Lok Sabha MP A Raja likened ‘Sanatan Dharma’ to HIV, calling for its destruction, further fueling the controversy.

Adding to the contentious atmosphere, Asaduddin Owaisi, a Member of Parliament, was alleged to have delivered a provocative speech in Hyderabad, which quickly spread across social media platforms. The petitioner highlighted Owaisi’s speech, noting,

“In the viral video, it is evident that he is inciting the Muslim youth, Owaisi by issuing an appeal to the youngsters of the community to galvanize and inhabit mosques. Referring to the demolition of the disputed Babri structure at Ayodhya, Owaisi alleged that otherwise, Muslims would be bereft of Mosques and their mosques would be snatched away from them.”

This plea, backed by references to the Supreme Court’s directives in Tehseen Poonawalla against the Union of India (2018), not only seeks to address the immediate issue of hate speeches but also raises critical questions about the impact of such rhetoric on India’s communal harmony and the safety of its Hindu citizens. The petitioner has named the Union government, the police chiefs of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Maharashtra, alongside the accused political leaders, as respondents, marking a comprehensive approach to tackling what is perceived as a grave threat to the nation’s unity and integrity.
